When downloading an app from the Google Play Store, you get the message “Waiting for download” or “Download pending”? We explain what to do in this case.

If the download of an app from the Google Play Store does not start even after a long wait and the loading symbol just rotates all the time, you can try the following ways to solve the problem.

11 suggested solutions for Play Store problems

  1. Often times, the cause of the problem is a bad internet connection. Therefore, first check whether your smartphone is properly connected to the Internet and, for example, websites can be opened normally. A VPN app should also not be active.
  2. If the message “Waiting for download” or “Download pending” does not disappear, cancel the download as a test, exit the Play Store and then start the download again.
  3. Restarting the smartphone is always worth trying if such errors occur.
  4. Before downloading the app, make sure that there is enough space on your mobile phone or tablet. If necessary, delete unnecessary data.
  5. Both the Google Play Store itself and the Android operating system should be installed in the latest available version on your device. If not: update before downloading apps!
  6. Check in the Android settings whether the time and date are set correctly. As a test, deactivate the automatic time management and then try to download the app from the Play Store.
  7. The download may also be queued by other app downloads or updates. So check under “Tap professional image> Manage apps and device> Pending downloads” whether applications are currently being downloaded. If necessary, stop the download by tapping the “X” symbol.
  8. Clear the Play Store app cache. To do this, go to the general Android settings and then to “App management> All installed apps> Google Play Store> Storage> Clear cache”. Then restart the smartphone and try to download the app again. If that still doesn’t work, select the option “Delete data” at the path mentioned above.
  9. Repeat the steps described in point 8 for the “Google Play Services” app.
  10. If you surf the mobile data network while on the move: Make sure that downloads are not only allowed in the WLAN. You can change this as follows: “Tap the profile picture in the Google Play Store> Settings> Network settings> Preferred download variant for apps> Via any network / Ask every time”.
  11. If nothing helps, all that remains is a complete reset of the Android smartphone to the factory settings.
