Vinyl - vinyl flooringThe large number of floor coverings on the market for modern building materials can amaze an inexperienced user and be confusing. New technologies make it possible to create a completely new type of floor that will have excellent characteristics, both in durability and good resistance to physical influences, and in external data. Of all the variety of floor coverings, the new vinyl-based floor occupies a special place. This is the latest development in the field of flooring, which has excellent technical and external data. This floor provides designers with ample opportunities to implement any interesting interior idea. To better understand what the new vinyl floors are capable of, let’s take a closer look at their classifications and other features.

What is vinyl flooring or vinyl flooring?

Vinyl is a multi-layer floor coveringVinyl is a multi-layer PVC-based coating. This artificial turf has high strength as well as excellent flexibility and durability. To give these qualities, plasticizers, special resins, quartz chips, inert fillers and stabilizers are added to polyvinyl chloride. Under high pressure, all this mass is fused together to obtain a starting multilayer material with excellent physical properties. You can highlight the layers of the vinyl floor. This will help you understand what vinyl is.

  • The base layer is actually polyvinyl chloride itself with the addition of quartz chips.

  • Top layer – this layer forms a printed pattern that gives a variety of textures.

  • The next top layer is a clear PVC layer for added strength.

  • Finish – UV hardened PVC layer.

  • Bottom layer – This layer is the self-adhesive surface that holds the vinyl tile to the floor.

Vinyl flooring classification

Vinyls in the form of tilesNew vinyl flooring is classified in different ways. It is possible to divide the wide range of products offered by different manufacturers in the modern construction market into square, rectangular or triangular modules of vinyl tiles. They can have a matte or glossy surface. Also, the surface of vinyl flooring can have a rough texture. In addition, manufacturers separate vinyl flooring according to production methods, which we will discuss below.

  • The first type of manufacture is quartz-vinyl modules, which consist of 80% quartz chips. This type of vinyl flooring has a strong and resilient structure, making it the best vinyl flooring available. He has excellent physical characteristics. This is a complete lack of moisture absorption, resistance to chemical attack and is an excellent dielectric.

  • The second type of manufacture is vinyl PVC plates, which are made from the vinyl itself, special resins along with stabilizers and some plasticizers. This collection of materials is compressed to form the raw material for the flooring. According to its characteristics, such a coating is much stronger and better than linoleum, so users are increasingly using it for hallways, bathrooms and other residential and non-residential premises.

  • The third type of fabrication is a self-adhesive vinyl covering, which is very convenient to install yourself. Its installation does not require special skills for cosmetic repairs of the premises. Simply peel off the backing tape and glue the vinyl panel to the previously cleaned floor surface. In this way, it is very convenient to carry out self-repairs, so self-adhesive vinyl is a very useful thing.

Varieties and classes of vinyl tiles

Vinyl - imitation wood and parquetLike laminate flooring, vinyl has three varieties, which are divided into classes according to the strength and wear resistance of the product. This allows it to be used for various purposes, for example, in an apartment of a lower resistance class, since there is no intensive flow of people, or in an office, where high stability is required with a large load of many human legs. Let’s look at all three varieties in more detail, and you will better understand which and where it is best to apply.

  1. Typical household vinyl floor tiles have a strength class of 23-31, which means they can be used in rooms where the intensity of walking is low. That is, such a floor covering is perfect in an apartment or house. The protective top layer is quite thin, but there are a lot of varieties of textures and colors, so choosing the right option for decorating any room design is quite simple.
  2. The next strength class belongs to commercial vinyl tiles and has a value of 32-42. This option is used in rooms with average traffic. It is quite common to find this vinyl floor covering in small offices or small retail spaces. This type differs from household vinyl in a denser and thicker protective layer, which allows for greater strength.
  3. The tritium type of strength is the maximum and has an index of 43 class. This type is used in premises with maximum traffic, for example, in industrial premises or workshops, as well as sports grounds and shopping and entertainment centers. The protective layer of this vinyl flooring is 3-4 millimeters. For greater strength, special mineral additives are added to it. Also, such a coating has antistatic characteristics and has a non-slip surface.

Laying vinyl flooring

Self-laying vinyl flooringLaying vinyl flooring is a fairly simple process that does not require special building skills. Moreover, there is a kind of vinyl that has a self-adhesive surface. It is enough to remove the protective coating and glue the material to a flat surface. This can be done even by a person who has never done floor repairs. First of all, you should level the floor surface and eliminate cracks, potholes and remove construction debris. You can make a screed or use self-leveling cement mixtures.

It will be better if the floor surface is sanded and leveled as much as possible before laying the vinyl covering. When laying vinyl flooring on concrete, measure the humidity level in the room, which should not exceed 45-65%. This indicator is optimal.

Vinyl tiles are glued in several ways. it perimeter bonding, when the adhesive is applied along the edges of the tiles, that is, the seams, and thus the material is laid around the perimeter of the room. Another way is complete internal surface treatment with glue vinyl flooring and then bonding to the floor surface.

Vinyl flooring reviews

Reviews of vinyl flooring are overwhelmingly very positive, since the material has good physical resistance to abrasion, significantly surpasses linoleum in strength and is very similar in texture and surface structure to laminate. This floor covering is perfect for underfloor heating, as it perfectly transmits heat and is resistant to the heating temperature of the warm floor.

  • A significant advantage of the vinyl floor, users highlight a fairly dense protective surface that perfectly resists harsh chemical detergents and is easily cleaned of almost any contamination. For example, in a nursery, where your little ones can paint the floor with felt-tip pens, smear the surface with clay or otherwise smear the floor, such a floor covering will be ideal.
  • In addition, vinyl tiles have excellent moisture resistance and sound insulation. And it should also be noted that laying vinyl flooring is a very simple task that any person can handle, even one who does not think about renovation. Therefore, the popularity of this floor covering is very high and is growing every day. Try asking the seller in the nearest building supermarket and you will surely get the answer that vinyl flooring is taken apart very quickly.

Summarizing the negative customer reviews, the following can be distinguished:

  • Peeling off the top protective layer on vinyl tiles, mainly in the corners. Most likely, this disadvantage is inherent in the cheapest samples produced by handicraft methods. Therefore, you should not buy the cheapest goods and products from an unknown manufacturer.

  • Reshaping, pushing, sprawling vinyl tiles. These disadvantages are not inherent in high-quality vinyl, however, on the market you can find both fake and handicraft products. The advice in this case is to be careful when choosing, pay attention to the seller’s certificates, not to choose goods at the lowest price from little-known manufacturers.
