Features and purpose of excavator buckets

5 min

Excavators are the most important type of construction equipment at any construction site, regardless of its size, as well as during work in quarries, rescue operations, and liquidation of the consequences of a raging disaster. The main moving element of this technique, with the help of which, in fact, all the required excavation and loading operations are carried out, are excavator buckets attached to the booms.

types of excavator bucketsExcavators are designed in such a way that the operator’s cab rotates in a circle, correspondingly turning the boom with the bucket in a given direction (180 degrees). This function is provided in 4WD vehicles. As for the non-four-wheel drive technology, here the arrow deviates only at an angle of forty-five to ninety degrees.

Modern manufacturers make excavator buckets from high-tech materials with increased strength, in particular from low-alloy steel. Such products are able to withstand very high mechanical loads, as well as work in extremely low and extremely high temperatures. In addition, hard alloy coatings are used that have undergone additional heat treatment, due to which the cutting function and wear resistance are increased. The entire production process is under the strictest control, so there is no doubt about compliance with all the necessary technological standards.

Types of excavator buckets

The degree of efficiency and speed of the work process directly depend on the size and design of the buckets. Today, manufacturers produce a wide variety of their models and modifications. By design, excavator buckets are classified into rectangular, cleaning, profile, leveling, loading, rock, trench, skeletal and ripper buckets.

Ripper buckets

Rippers are distinguished by a stepped arrangement of the teeth, due to which they are used both for excavation and for loosening frozen ground, carrying out working operations on rocky soils. They can even crush stones. The development of heavy soil with numerous rocky inclusions is carried out using special rock models.

Loading buckets

Loading buckets presented on the site page http://www.kraneks.ru/ru/node/85, are used for loading and unloading bulk and loose materials, the density of which does not exceed 1100 kg / m3. Such products are characterized by a lightweight design. If necessary, they can be fitted with elements that provide additional protection for side seams, ribs, and the space between the teeth. Loading buckets can be installed on various types of construction equipment – standard and mini excavators, front loaders. With their help, work is carried out on loose types of soil, including slag and sand, on plant and peat soils.

Ditching buckets

Grading buckets are indispensable in the process of cleaning and grading works. With their help, road and river slopes, canals, embankments are processed. If you need to dig a narrow trench necessary for laying a cable or pipeline, you cannot do without a special trench bucket. Profile modifications are used not only for earthmoving operations, but also for deepening trenches and canals, the slope angle of which ranges from forty-five to eighty degrees.

Sweep buckets

Sweep buckets are lightweight designs due to their main field of use. So, they are ideal for cleaning riverbeds, reservoirs and canals from silt, debris, and other vegetative sediments. The edge of such a bucket is sharp, but has no teeth, so that all the necessary work could be done as easily as possible. Such products betray themselves by the presence of holes on the bottom and side walls so that the excess liquid fraction can freely flow back into the reservoir.

Profile buckets

Profile buckets, also referred to as trapezoidal, are intended for organizing trenches, ditches, canals, gutters and other similar objects, as well as for cleaning canals, ditches and river beds. The sidewalls of this bucket are chamfered to facilitate channel digging and to be able to work at any incline. This structure allows the creation of slopes that prevent soil from falling back into the depression. Depending on the needs and characteristics of each specific object, the slope can be changed. Depending on the characteristics of the soil on which the work is being carried out, the profile bucket can be additionally equipped with teeth or side cutters to make it easier to penetrate the soil.

Rock buckets

Rock buckets are designed for the development of frozen pre-loosened soils, for working with hard rock in rocky terrain. These buckets are characterized by increased reliability, durability and durability, as the performance of the intended work puts forward the corresponding requirements. The bottom of these buckets is equipped with a weld-on protection, and the set may include crowns or side cutters to facilitate work. It is also possible to load materials with such buckets, but it is acceptable to use this function only in cases where conventional loading buckets cannot cope. So, they are used when it is necessary to load hard, heavy materials such as debris or rock debris.

Trench buckets

Trench buckets are the most accurate and small both in volume and in width, which ranges from 30 to 65 cm. These parameters make it possible to use such a bucket when digging rectangular trenches, channels, and when laying pipelines and communications. The advantages of trench buckets include the ability to use them in almost any conditions and hard-to-reach places: in urban areas, where space is usually limited, at industrial facilities, etc. The shape of the bucket allows for straight, even trenches with sufficient depth. Moreover, it is suitable for working with any type of soil: sand, clay, loam, gravel are equally susceptible to its action.

Shovel bucket

A shovel bucket is required when work is being carried out above the excavator’s level. The opposite purpose has a bucket “backhoe”, which is useful if you need to work below the level of the excavator, and this, for example, preparation of trenches, pits, etc.

Skeleton buckets

Skeleton buckets, which are also called lattice or screening buckets, give their purpose, like other types of this technique, already by their name. They are irreplaceable when you need to load stones or divide them into separate fractions. Due to the design features and the presence of a grate, large particles can be removed from the soil, while sifting out small fractions.

This review of excavator buckets clearly demonstrates the fact that various types of work should be carried out using specially designed products for this purpose, in order to achieve the best results in the shortest possible time.
