It is impossible to imagine a summer cottage or garden plot without a washbasin: there you can wash your hands after carrying out all kinds of garden work, and rinse vegetables and fruits, and wash, etc. At the same time, a washbasin can be not only a functional detail, but also decorative, decorating a summer cottage. On sale, especially for use in the country, there are several types of washbasins. In addition, such a simple design can be done with your own hands, because a country sink standing on the street is understood as the simplest device without connecting to a water supply.

Ready-made washbasins for summer cottages

On sale you can find ready-made washbasins for a summer residence, and they may have a slightly different look, and not only the design, but also the installation method may be different. All such designs are divided into washbasins without a cabinet and washbasins with a cabinet. The former are much more mobile, they can be installed anywhere, and the latter are more functional and very much resemble those washbasins that are in our bathrooms.

Such sinks may differ in shape, capacity, as well as some nuances of use:

  • a plastic container for 3-5 liters barrel-shaped is the simplest type of washbasin. Water must be poured here manually, as in all types of country sinks, and its supply is carried out when the spout is pressed with hands. This clamping structure can be nailed to any vertical surface: wall, wood, board, etc. When the water runs out, it is replenished by hand again and the washbasin is ready for use. It is better to put a bucket at the bottom to collect dirty water;

  • improved design – rectangular container with a volume of 10-15 liters. To get water, a tap is used: it can be pressure or valve. The latter reminds us of the taps in ordinary washbasins and sinks, but the clamp for summer cottages is considered more convenient and ergonomic: it is worth slightly pressing it, as it becomes magnetized, and the water flows calmly. When your hands are washed, you need to slightly pull down on the tap to stop the flow of water. Such containers can also be installed anywhere, and often they are even placed on pedestals, and water supplies are replenished manually;

  • oval galvanized steel washbasins. The washbasin itself is equipped with a valve, and is considered not as durable as its plastic counterpart. Below, under the tap, washbasins of this type are supplied with a small bowl that serves to accumulate water, and can also be used for washing vegetables and fruits;

  • a washbasin on the counter is a great find for all summer residents, especially for those who have long thought about how to install a washbasin closer to the beds. This design is equipped with a special stand, at the bottom of which there is a crossbar: if you press it, the legs are driven into the ground, thereby fixing the washbasin in any place, even where there are no supports such as wood, walls, etc. It can also serve as an additional washbasin, if it is installed not near the house, but directly where some work is taking place: as a result, you will not have to constantly run across the entire area, and you can wash your hands without leaving far away. Such a washbasin is very easy to move from place to place, and at the same time it remains as functional as other types.

Washbasins with cabinet

This type of washbasin is easier to classify as stationary than mobile: it is difficult to move them from place to place, but they have other advantages that are inherent in stationary models. These structures can be used to place towels, soap and other hygiene items on them, which is very convenient, and with a certain approach, you can get a stylish structure that will decorate the site.

These structures are often called “moidodyrs”, and they consist of a tank with a tap, a pedestal, a sink. The volume of the tank ranges from 12 to 32 liters, which makes the design convenient and functional. It is easy to connect a water heating system or even a water supply to such washbasins.

Due to the fact that in such washbasins there is a metal or plastic sink, it becomes more convenient to use them: you can put a bowl of fruit and wash them calmly, without fear that something will fall. Such structures can be installed inside a country house, then you can pay attention to wooden and plastic cabinets, which are more afraid of the influence of the external environment. If the washbasin is on the street, then the water in the tank will heat itself up under the influence of sunlight, but it is better to provide heating in the room.

Some models of such washbasins are equipped with hooks for towels, soap holders and other elements, which add additional convenience to the design. A bucket for collecting water neatly hides inside the cabinet, where you can put something else, such as detergents or other accessories.

Washbasins with a curbstone are naturally more expensive, and it is better to install them under a canopy so that it does not start to deteriorate quickly under the influence of precipitation.

Heated washbasins

Of course, in the summer, few people think about heating water in the washbasin, but with the onset of autumn, washing your hands and washing your face with ice water becomes unpleasant. If you visit a summer cottage until late autumn, then you can pay attention to heated structures. They resemble the previous type of washbasins, only there is a heating element here. Heating systems can be completely different, but in any case, you will need an outlet somewhere nearby. The most advanced systems will be able to heat water to a clearly specified temperature, and such washbasins will become indispensable not only on the site itself, but also in a country house, if no water is supplied there.

Do-it-yourself washbasin

Many summer residents advise not to spend money on buying a finished model, because the simplest and not quite models of washbasins can be made by hand. And now we will look at the most popular ways to do this.

The easiest way is to use a 2 to 5 liter plastic bottle as a washbasin. Even a schoolchild can handle it, and the washbasin will be functional. You will need a plastic container, and transparent plastic will also be convenient because you can always control the amount of remaining water. The bottom of such a bottle is cut off, but it may not be completely cut off, creating a kind of cap that will protect against insects and debris. Next, we attach it to a certain support by the neck or bottom of the bottle. Now only the issue with the crane remains to be resolved. In the simplest version, a regular lid is used, which, if necessary, to wash your hands, is slightly unscrewed to allow water to flow, and then screwed back. You can use the dispenser caps that are commonly found on sports water bottles. The design can be supplemented with a pressure spout that brings the washbasin closer to the ready-made structures available in stores. You will need a screw or nail, which in its usual form will close the hole with a head, and when you press it, open it, letting water pass. But in this case, something needs to be done with the sharp end so that it does not hurt when used. Such quick home-made washbasins are used mainly in uninhabited summer cottages, but they are also suitable in other cases.

A more advanced washbasin can be made from a plastic canister, small barrel, or even a bucket, but any other container that can hold a certain amount of water will do. In addition, it is worth getting a crane, a squeegee, nuts and two gaskets. A hole of the required diameter is made in the container, a squeegee is installed there, and gaskets are put on both sides, clamped with nuts, and only then proceed to the installation of the crane. All these operations do not take much time, but the result is a functional device that is not much inferior to purchased plastic tanks. To collect waste water, you can use a bucket, or you can drain the drain into a sump. You can simply cover the ground under the sink with gravel – this is a natural drainage that will ensure that the site is clean and there is no permanent dirt.

By the way, the method described above is also used when arranging a summer shower in the country, only here much more voluminous containers are already used. If, at the same time, you equip a cabinet for them and put a sink, then you get a decent washbasin that will provide maximum functionality. Probably, it is unnecessary to tell that the dacha is a battery of all old and unnecessary things from the house, therefore, as a sink, you can take the one that used to be in the apartment, but is now not used, but still has a pretty decent look.

Some craftsmen use a very interesting type of washbasin in their dachas. So, there is a foot, almost non-contact way to “get” water: a container with water is located on the ground, connected with a hose to a tap and a pear, and when you press the latter, water under pressure is poured through the tap.

If all such homemade bins are supplemented with a homemade cabinet assembled from boards and plywood sheets, then we end up with a full-fledged washbasin. If at the same time it is painted and decorated a little, then in the end we also get a stylish element of landscape design.
