Change HomePod WiFi: Here’s how

2 min

After the initial setup, you rarely need to change the HomePod WiFi. In certain situations, however, it is necessary to connect your HomePod to a new WLAN. You can find out how this works in this guide.

If you always use your Apple speaker in the same place and in the same WiFi network, then there is no reason for you to adjust the network settings of the smart speaker. However, if you change the access password to your own WLAN or take your HomePod with you on vacation, the Apple loudspeaker will no longer find its way into the changed or new network. We will now explain to you how you can reconnect the HomePod to the WLAN.

Here’s how you can change the HomePod WiFi

You can only change the HomePod WiFi using the Home app.

To change the WiFi network on your HomePod, you first need your iPhone or iPad. Then follow these instructions:

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Now press firmly on the HomePad icon if your device supports 3D Touch. For devices without 3D Touch, simply hold the icon down for a longer period of time.
  3. A message then appears in the Home app, informing you that your speaker is currently connected to a different WLAN than your iPhone or iPad. Scroll down and you will see a yellow link called “Move HomePod to ‘Network Name'”. Tap the link.
  4. The HomePod now automatically switches to the network in which the iPhone or iPad is located.

The HomePod only works if it is in the same WiFi network as your iPhone or iPad. If you are using a new WiFi network on your iPhone / iPad, you always have to manually trigger the WiFi update for your smart speaker. The HomePod is currently not yet capable of automatically logging into new WLAN networks. It is not known whether Apple will change this in the future.

  • If you have changed your WiFi password or are using a different network than before, your HomePod must also switch to the new WiFi.
  • Your HomePod will only work if it’s on the same network as your iPhone or iPad. Switching to the new WLAN only works via iPhone / iPad.
  • Open the Home app on your device and press and hold the HomePod icon. A message appears stating that the respective device and the loudspeaker are in different networks.
  • Click on the yellow link to move your HomePod into the same network as your iPhone / iPad.
