A hygienic toilet shower: 8 tips for choosing

6 min

Currently, the question of personal hygiene is one of the most pressing. Leading plumbing manufacturers do their best to make this intimate procedure comfortable for the consumer. The most common sanitary ware in this area is the bidet. But its dimensions do not always allow installing it in the bathroom of most typical apartments, and therefore the hygienic shower for the toilet is widespread.

Notable bidet alternatives

For a small room, a toilet with a bidet function, a toilet bidet lid, or a hygienic shower may be suitable.

Toilet with bidet function – a toilet equipped with a retractable nozzle with manual adjustment of the water flow. In this case, the mixer is either built into the toilet, or mounted separately.

Bidet lid is a very compact, comfortable and functional solution, in which retractable nozzles made of hygienic material are installed in the toilet lid. It is a mobile device that fits any toilet. The water flow is regulated manually or using the control panel. More expensive models have a built-in hairdryer, as well as water and seat heating systems. However, the bidet cover has one drawback – the high price. Not every man in the street can afford it.

An affordable, compact and functional device – such a device is a hygienic toilet shower.

Benefits of a hygienic toilet shower

This invention has a number of advantages over analogues:

  1. Multifunctionality.
Due to the fact that the hygienic shower has a long flexible hose in its design, it can be used when cleaning the bathroom, cleaning the toilet bowl, baby pot or cat litter box. With the help of this device, you can take care not only of your personal hygiene, but also greatly facilitate the care of a child, elderly or sick person.

  2. Ease of installation.
  3. Versatility. The shower is connected in the place where it is more convenient – from the sink mixer, from the toilet, parking lot or pipes laid in the bathroom. Can be attached to any surface.

  4. Availability. This option is much cheaper than similar devices. In addition, it does not require additional installation costs, as in the case of a bidet (additional piping and drain pipe).

  5. Compactness. It takes up little space, which makes it possible to place it even in a small bathroom.

Before buying a hygienic shower, you need to understand some of the intricacies of design and installation in order to choose a convenient and high-quality product that will serve you for many years.

What should be considered when buying?

When buying, you must carefully compare your installation conditions with the design features of the selected equipment. You need to pay attention to:

  1. Features of the design of this instance.

  2. Installation method.
  3. Choice of installation site.
  4. Component materials.
  5. Manufacturer and price.

Let’s look at each parameter separately.

Hygienic shower design

The construction of this device is very simple. The entire hygienic shower system consists of a small number of parts, due to this, it has a high degree of reliability and, accordingly, a low cost price.

So, a hygienic shower for a toilet is a set that consists of the following elements:

  1. Mixer (regulates the water supply, its pressure and temperature). High-quality hygienic shower models have an additional water supply button on the mixer.

  2. Hose (1-1.5 m).

  3. Bidetka is a narrow watering can with a button for feeding inlets and a holder. The spray nozzles provide the direction of movement of the water stream, excluding spraying to the sides. When choosing a hygienic shower, you should pay attention to the presence of a button for adjusting and switching water directly on the shower head, which will ensure more convenient and safe operation of the device.

  4. Holder – attachment of a watering can. It is often located on the wall close to the mixer and at such a distance that it could be easily reached by hand. Sometimes the holders are located on the sink or toilet.

  5. Thermostat (not installed on all models) is a device that allows you to regulate the temperature of the incoming water. A very convenient addition to a hygienic shower, since having set the temperature once, there is no need to adjust it in the future. However, it requires additional financial costs.

A hygienic shower does not always imply the purchase of a set with this configuration. If during installation it is planned to connect to a common mixer with a washbasin, it will be much more economical to purchase the hose and watering can separately.

When buying, it should be borne in mind that some designs have the ability to connect to only one pipe. This point needs to be clarified.

Installation methods for a hygienic shower

There are several types of hygienic shower, depending on the type of installation, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. In order to choose one of them, you must be guided by the dimensions of your bathroom and the location of utilities.

  1. With a wall mixer This is the simplest and most common mounting system. In this case, the watering can is installed directly on the wall in a convenient place, and the mixer is attached to the pipes of the toilet room.

  2. With a basin mixer – a simple and versatile fixing method. A mixer is attached to the sink, to which a hose with a watering can is connected. The watering can holder is installed either on the sink itself or on the wall at the desired height. The advantage of this system is the ease of its installation. Installation can be carried out at any time after the completion of repair work – just install a tee to connect it. Another advantage is space saving due to its installation on plumbing fixtures. It also saves money on the mixer. But it will be advisable to install such a shower if your bathroom is small and the sink is in the immediate vicinity of the toilet.

  3. Concealed mixer. The entire fastening mechanism is hidden behind the wall. There is only a control panel and a hose on the wall. This type of installation is very aesthetic, but it is suitable if the renovation is at an early stage. If a tile is laid, then the installation of such a mixer will not be advisable. The cost of a hygienic shower with this installation method is slightly higher than that of its previous counterparts.

Choosing a location

When choosing a location, it is necessary to evaluate the layout of communications in your bathroom and decide which of the installation methods will be appropriate. If the washbasin and toilet are close to each other, you can opt for a shower with a washbasin mixer and thus save your budget.

If the distance does not allow this, decide at what height it will be most convenient to mount the shower on the wall. If you have children, it must be borne in mind that the watering can should be located out of their reach. Otherwise, you cannot avoid wet walls and puddles.

Execution materials

In order for the plumbing to be reliable, it is necessary to choose the right materials from which it is made.

  1. For the mixer, the most durable and wear-resistant material is bronze. But its cost is very high. In addition, if we talk about interior design, such a material will only be appropriate in a classic interior. The most optimal solution for mixers will be materials such as stainless steel and brass.
  2. The hose consists of two elements – an inner hose and a sheath. Molded rubber works well for the inner hose. It is strong, elastic and retains its integrity for a long time. For outer wrapping, polymers have proven to be the best. You can also opt for aluminum strips or nylon threads. These are also fairly high quality materials.

  3. A watering can requires durable materials that are not afraid of rust. These materials include stainless steel and brass. Plastic showed itself well. In addition to all of the above advantages, it is also lightweight, budgetary and very aesthetic.

Manufacturer’s choice

Today the market is overflowing with products for every taste and color. But it is best to give preference to time-tested manufacturers who have established themselves as the best plumbing companies.

Germany (Grohe, Hansgrohe, etc.), Spain (Genebre) and Switzerland remain the leaders in this area. If the prices of these manufacturers are high for you, then quite good plumbing fixtures from Czech manufacturers (Ravak, Imprese) are quite good.

In the modern world, everything has been done for the convenience and comfort of a person. Smart plumbing is no longer a myth, but a reality. You just need to make the right choice of the device that you need, and you do not have to spend a lot of time and effort on personal hygiene, and taking care of loved ones.
