Mini-bars were once an attribute of expensive hotels, then they migrated to offices, and today they are found in an increasing number of apartments. Anyone who has had a chance to treat him must have been able to appreciate its many benefits. A mini-bar is a great place for expensive alcohol, because there are optimal conditions for its storage, and when guests suddenly come home, a collection of wines, whiskey and liqueurs will be very useful. Let’s figure out how to choose a mini-bar for home and office and what is important to pay attention to. A decent assortment of built-in models offers catalog of mini bars store “Dar-Mebel”, which presents products of different price categories.

# 1. What is a mini bar?

Small refrigerators, wine shops, and storage for several bottles of alcohol and glasses built into pieces of furniture are also called mini-bars. A minibar is a compact refrigerated cabinet designed for storing drinks. The useful volume of such devices does not exceed 90 liters. Items with a volume of more than 70 liters may have a small freezer compartment.

Many people first heard about the existence of minibars from Western films. They have always been an attribute of expensive hotel rooms, and today they are actively used in many domestic hotels. Hotel minibars are often equipped with a transparent door so that the client can view the range of drinks without opening the refrigerator. Some hotels equip minibars with a special sensor that immediately collects information about which drink was withdrawn and how much it costs.

In offices and apartments, such sensors are useless, but many have long appreciated the opportunity to always have a decent assortment of quality drinks at hand. When it comes to offices, minibars are usually installed in executive offices or in the office kitchen. Despite the fact that today you will not surprise anyone with such a product, the mini-bar continues to be a symbol of prestige and respectability. In an apartment, a mini-bar can be installed anywhere, except, of course, a children’s room. The best places are in the living room, in the kitchen and in the study.

№2. Mini bar design

The first thing to decide when choosing a minibar is how it should be, built-in or free-standing. Built-in products are often chosen for hotel rooms, as well as offices where you do not need to focus on the availability of such a product. Built-in minibars are also popular in residential apartments. The wine cabinet can be conveniently positioned in a wall, table, chair or other piece of furniture. An additional plus – you don’t have to spend time and effort searching for a model that would fit into the interior, because only technical parameters come first, and here it is already easier to make a choice.

Freestanding mini-bars are often made in interesting exclusive designs. It may resemble a small wooden chest of drawers with several pull-out and swing drawers – a great option for a study or living room in a classic style. There are cabinets that resemble a safe or even a microwave oven – an option for a hi-tech and minimalist interior. When choosing a mini-bar, you should think very well how it will fit into the interior.

The doors of the minibar can be transparent or not, the materials of execution can be combined, and there can be from one to three or more compartments – there are a lot of interesting and exclusive options.

As for the useful volume, small office minibars are usually designed for 20-30 liters, equipped with several shelves and can accommodate a basic set of drinks necessary for this kind of product: vodka, whiskey, cognac, champagne, white and red wine, tequila, gin and a few soft drinks. Larger minibars, up to 70 liters, can accommodate an even more varied collection of alcohol: a good option for those who always want to have a large selection of drinks or often arrange friendly gatherings over a glass of something strong. Models with a volume of 70-90 liters are more difficult to find, but they may even have a freezer compartment: true connoisseurs of high-quality alcohol will find use in this zone.

This is not related to the topic, but we note that only expensive high-quality alcohol is supposed to complete the mini-bar.

No. 3. Minibar cooling system

Minibars and mini fridges are often confused. Indeed, these two types of devices have a lot in common, but the minibars are distinguished by the presence of transparent or decorated doors and quieter operation. The thing is that they are usually equipped not with the usual compressor cooling system, but with an absorption or thermoelectric one: they not only make less noise, but also allow more rational use of the inner space of the minibar, which is very important, given the initially small format of this product.

The most expensive option is adsorption cooling. It is a modern, reliable system that is completely silent. But in terms of price / quality ratio, thermoelectric refrigerators are much better: the noise from them is barely audible (it is so low that the product can be safely put in the bedroom), such minibars are cheaper than adsorption ones, are easier to repair and consume less energy.

Today, compressor-type mini-bars are still in use. Modern technologies make it possible to significantly reduce the noise level, and in terms of other parameters, the compressor system is not inferior to analogues. Often just such mini-bars are installed in offices, apartments, not the most expensive hotels and even in summer cottages.

No. 4. Temperature regime

Before buying a mini-bar, it is worth deciding what drinks will be stored there. There are products designed to store only one drink or several, which require approximately the same temperature conditions. If you plan to store an extensive and rich collection of alcohol in the mini-bar, then it is better to take a multi-temperature model, where in some parts of the bar, for example, 6-70C is maintained, and in others – 15-170C. The freezer compartment also sometimes will not be superfluous.

№5. An alternative to the mini bar

The collection of expensive alcohol can be stored not only in the refrigerator. Connoisseurs of good alcoholic beverages have come up with a huge number of options to store alcohol at home, and in such a way that the storage becomes a work of art and a highlight of the interior, or, on the contrary, attracts a minimum of attention.

Often the mini-bar is organized in this way:

  • use special racks or wineries, where bottles will be stored horizontally or at an angle. In terms of size and design, such racks can be anything you like – only at the first acquaintance with the assortment, your head can spin. A wine collection can be a stand-alone item or built into another piece of furniture. The height ranges from 50 cm to 2 m, the number of places for bottles – from 3 to almost infinity. Some models are also equipped with storage places for glasses and other necessary attributes;
  • cabinet with hinged or swinging door. In the old days, the mini-bar was built into some walls, its space was made with mirrors to make drinks look more profitable. Today these bars have been modernized, but the idea has remained the same;

  • globes, barrels and other objects that at first glance are just decor, but in fact hide enough space for storing alcohol. This is a great option for the executive office, home office and living room;

  • transformer bars – products that can easily and easily turn from a simple bar into a small rack;

  • tables on wheels and whatnots;
  • a small bar can be built into a sofa or armchair, and they organize the place so that you can store bottles, glasses and a corkscrew.

There can still be a lot of options, but all mini-bars can be conditionally divided into open, when the entire collection is in sight, closed and portable, which can be easily moved if necessary. If you don’t have the funds to buy a separate mini-bar, you can organize storage space on kitchen shelves or in cupboards.

If an ordinary minibar (refrigerator) maintains optimal conditions for storing drinks, then when organizing a bar in another place, it will be necessary to comply with a number of conditions so that the alcohol retains its original taste:

  • wine should not be stored in direct sunlight, and it also requires strict conditions in terms of humidity and temperature. In addition, the angle of storage of bottles is also important, so it is better to store a collection of wine in a special wine cabinet, then it will definitely not ferment;
  • it is better to keep the liquor warm, as in the cold the drink can become cloudy;
  • cognac, vodka and whiskey are stored strictly vertically, with minimal humidity, in a cool;
  • all alcoholic beverages are afraid of direct sunlight.

There can be a huge number of versions of the mini-bar, and the finished copy can be modified to your liking. Lighting, mirrors and other decorative elements can become an excellent decoration – the main thing is that everything is harmonious and functional. It is better if the minibar is always full, so when choosing, you need to be very clear about how much alcohol you will store.
